STEPHEN GRAHAM and Daniel Mays (pictured) are back in a third series of this very silly buddy-cop comedy. Mays plays an idiotic robotic detective, the result of an artificial intelligence experiment intended to revive DI John Major after he was killed in the line of duty, but lacking the original’s finely honed crimefighting instincts. Graham co-stars as his human partner, DI Roy Carver. Both actors are known for more serious roles — and both memorably featured in that pinnacle of police procedurals, Line Of Duty — so it’s great to see them having so much fun sending up the crime drama conventions. Mays has said he describes the show as ‘a cross between Robocop and Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em’. The new series begins with the pair under investigation and languishing on limited duties — until a fellow officer is killed, and they are called back into action.
