Shia activists raid embassy
PROTESTERS stormed London’s Azerbaijani embassy last night.
They were protesting at the country’s treatment of a woman they said had her water cut off.
The activists claim Seyyide Sehla was targeted by Azerbaijani authorities after writing ‘Ya Hussain’ on her wall on Wednesday – a reference to the grandson of the prophet Muhammad and the third Shia Imam.
One said: ‘The government are oppressing her because she practised as a Shia Muslim. The authorities [in that area] are Sunni so the Shias are not allowed to practice their own religion.’ Azerbaijan is considered the most secular Muslimmajority country.
Eight people were arrested, Scotland Yard confirmed.
