Doubts over headbutt claim

-

KATE Greville was yesterday accused of making up her claim that Ryan Giggs injured her lip by headbutting her in the face.

The ex-footballer’s barrister claimed that she was hurt by their ‘faces coming together’ as they tussled over a phone.

Miss Greville, 38, alleged that after threatening to tell police Giggs ‘ attacked’ her, the former Wales manager ‘looked me straight in the eyes and headbutted me in my lip’.

The PR executive told jurors that the fight started after she accessed his iPad and found proof he had cheated.

Yesterday Giggs’ barrister accused her of making false claims during her second day of cross-examination.

Suggesting that she had been trying to snatch her phone from Giggs’ pocket, Chris Daw QC asked: ‘It wasn’t a headbutt, was it?... It was two faces coming together in a very minor form of contact.’

Replying that the accusation was ‘completely false’, Miss Greville added: ‘Of course it was a headbutt.’

After showing police bodycam footage of Miss Greville on the night of the alleged attack, Mr Daw quizzed her about ‘inconsistencies’ with her later police statements. Miss Greville said she had been ‘confused’ and ‘in shock’.
