Is Brown now turning on ‘missing’ Starmer with a holiday swipe?

- Kumail Jaffer Political Reporter

GORDON Brown appeared to take a swipe at Keir Starmer as he warned that crises ‘don’t take holidays’.

The former Labour prime minister unveiled a series of proposals to tackle the cost of living crunch – as Sir Keir spent his second week on holiday.

In a dramatic intervention, Mr Brown called on the Government to scrap the energy price cap and urged ministers to nationalise suppliers who fail to cut costs.

He wrote in the Guardian: ‘Time and tide wait for no one. Neither do crises. They don’t take holidays, and don’t politely hang fire.’ Taking aim at Boris Johnson and the Tory leadership candidates, he added that decisions ‘cannot be put on hold’.

Labour’s justice spokesman Steve Reed rejected Mr Brown’s nationalisation suggestion, saying it would be too expensive. He told Sky News that the party will unveil its full policy ‘over the next few days.’
