THE Chinese pianist Yuja Wang (pictured) loves it when the piano is brought on to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall and the audience shouts out ‘Heave ho!’ It’s all part of the special atmosphere of the Proms, an atmosphere she will be enjoying tonight in a concert that pays homage to the ultimate piano virtuoso Franz Liszt, and opens with the battle between the orchestra and the soloist that is the Hungarian composer’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Yuja, a pianist of international renown, has the skill and spirit for the battle. If you would rather watch her in action, this concert is also being shown on BBC4 (8pm).

■ IT’S astounding that the Sherborne Missal, a 15thcentury jewel of a book, has survived in such superb condition. A Benedictine monk and a Dominican friar working in Dorset produced this exquisitely illustrated collection of religious texts.
