Supermodel back in Vogue six years after botched treatment
HER catwalk career blossomed as a Vogue cover girl in the 80s.
Now Linda Evangelista has returned to the fashion bible – six years after she was left ‘deformed’ by a fat-busting treatment.
But the 57-year-old was quick to reveal it wasn’t her ‘real’ look as she had taped back her face, neck and jaw for the shoot.
The Canadian supermodel, whose first British Vogue cover was in 1989, posed in a red PVC headscarf for the September issue.
In another picture, she wears a Fendi mohair coat and beams over a bouquet of roses.
She told the magazine: ‘That’s not my jaw and neck in real life – and I can’t walk around with tape and elastics everywhere. You know what, I’m trying to love myself as I am. But for photos I always think we’re here to create fantasies. We’re creating dreams.
‘I think it’s allowed. Also, all my insecurities are taken care of in these pictures so I got to do what I love to do.’
The shoot comes nearly a year after Miss Evangelista revealed she had been sent into a ‘cycle of deep depression’ after suffering a rare reaction to the fat-freezing procedure Cool-Sculpting in 2016. Last month she settled a £42million lawsuit against parent company Zeltiq Aesthetics, claiming she was left ‘permanently deformed’ by the treatment.
She told Vogue that she had two unsuccessful rounds of liposuction and lived on water, celery and apples to try to undo the damage.
She added: ‘Am I cured mentally? Absolutely not. But I’m so grateful for the support I got from my friends and from my industry.’
Miss Evangelista, who famously quipped she wouldn’t get out of bed for less than $10,000, said it was a ‘dream come true’ to grace the cover again.
