City off to Spain after Toon game Don’t attack Jack, urges Howe

- By JACK GAUGHAN By CRAIG HOPE

Manchester city will jet straight off to spain for a four-day trip after tomorrow’s game at newcastle.

in an unusual move, the Premier League champions are facing Barcelona in a friendly for charity at the nou camp on Wednesday evening.

But Pep Guardiola wanted to turn the trip into a training camp, with city using facilities in Girona to aid their preparations for next saturday’s home game against crystal Palace.

the friendly is organised to raise funds for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research after ex-Barcelona goalkeeper and coach Juan carlos Unzue, who worked under

Guardiola, was diagnosed with the disease.

it will also take Bernardo silva to the club who have publicly courted him all summer, with Guardiola anticipating that city’s transfer business is over.

‘We will be together for a few days,’ said Guardiola.

‘ there is time to train and recover in a good environment and we go because Barcelona opened their doors to make a game for an important person in our lives.’

Guardiola added: ‘ it will be perfect and we will come back

here on thursday, recover, see the draw for the champions League and prepare for the Palace game.’

city have surprised their manager by winning both opening games of the season.

‘ the last two games were really good and at some points unexpected,’ he said.

‘the players prove to me how wrong i was (as) in the first games, always we have doubts about how we will react.

‘We didn’t train much, just 10 or 11 days for pre- season. i don’t know how we are going to do. the last three years we didn’t win against West ham away and they proved i was wrong.’

EDDIE HOWE has warned his Newcastle players not to seek retribution on Manchester City’s Jack Grealish after his disparaging comments about Miguel Almiron. Grealish, filmed during City’s bus parade after winning the Premier League in May, joked that one of the secrets behind their final-day comeback against Aston Villa was Riyad Mahrez being substituted because he’d ‘played like Almiron’. Howe, though, does not want his men to target the City forward at

St James’ Park tomorrow. ‘We need to play the game with cool heads,’ said Howe. ‘We need to have fire in our hearts, but we need to play with discipline. We can’t lose that. We need to keep 11 players on the pitch in every game this season.’ Howe also defended Almiron, adding: ‘There’s so much more to come from Miggy. He epitomises the way we want to play out of possession but, on the ball, he’s done some very good things and he’s continuing to improve.’ Meanwhile, Howe says Bruno Guimaraes will not be sold amid interest from Real Madrid. ‘We’re trying to build a squad here. We want to enhance the group, not take away our best players,’ he said.
