■ PETER CURRAN
left Northern Ireland as The Troubles ripped Belfast apart. He worked as a carpenter, a reporter and a producer, and made the offbeat comedy series Bunk Bed. THE PAST IS A FOREIGN COUNTRY (8PM, RADIO 4) joins Peter as he returns to Belfast to meet some of his contemporaries who ‘didn’t run away’. They include a drag queen, a pop star and a linguist who, with wit and some great stories, tell Peter what he missed.
