The last hours in office for Boris

BORIS Johnson will give his final speech to the nation and offer his resignation to the Queen this morning before Liz Truss is officially invited to form a government.

He is set to call for unity within the Conservative Party after a bruising two months of infighting saw the party fall further behind Labour in the polls.

The outgoing Prime Minister will speak outside No 10 at the unusually early time of 7.30am as poor weather means the trip to Balmoral will take longer.

It is the first time a new leader has been appointed at the Scottish residence.
