GRIPPING DRAMA Liar, Acorn TV

IN THE first series of this ITV thriller from 2017, teacher Laura (Downton’s Joanne Froggatt) goes on a date with handsome surgeon Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd). She says the evening ended in rape, he says it was consensual sex. One of them is lying, and the police prove less than helpful. Plenty of twists and turns kept us guessing, although 2020’s second series — which arrives on Acorn TV on September 26 — stretched credibility too far for some.
