Sense of responsibility

-

MY HUsBand and I are members of the Conservative Party and have been mindful of the gravity of our decision and the deep responsibility of playing a part in the election of the new leader and Prime Minister.

We dutifully watched endless hustings, read widely from diverse sources and listened to hours of political comment.

However, we’ve found ourselves in a somewhat uncomfortable position. We have been described as out of touch, anti-woke dinosaurs with a narrow band of self- interest to influence our decisions.

Those of us who bother to join political parties are, by definition, well-informed and genuinely care about the governance of our beloved country. The issues we addressed were divorced from anything that

directly affected us. We looked at policies for the whole country, electability and economic issues. We believe we all benefit if the country is in a good place.

We have a party system rather than a presidential one so why were so many brickbats aimed at us?
