Football’s not a religion: Judge
A JUDGE has ruled football is not a religion but a lifestyle choice after a man claimed he lost work because of the team he supports.
Edward McClung, 51, claimed that, as a diehard fan of Glasgow Rangers, he was subject to discrimination.
Mr McClung, of Bonnybridge, near Glasgow, got work at construction firm Doosan Babcock through recruiter NRL in 2019.
When Doosan Babcock didn’t re-hire him, he claimed £80,000 at an employment tribunal, saying he felt it was because of his team. Being a fan was a philosophical belief, he said, and should be protected by law. He told Judge Lucy Wiseman: ‘I don’t go to church. I go to Rangers.’ She rejected his claim.
