JOHN grew up in the Amish community in America. He wore simple, hand-made clothes, rarely saw the outside world, and travelled by horse and buggy. His first language is Pennsylvanian Dutch. Emily grew up in a Hasidic Jewish community in London. Her first language is Yiddish, and she too lived a life apart from the outside world. Both John and Emily took the difficult step of leaving their communities behind to build new lives and, in this fascinating documentary, they share their experiences since taking that frightening leap, and tell presenter Catherine Carr how they survived.
■ TOM CHAPLIN (pictured) was touring with Keane when the pandemic brought everything to a halt. He used the time to get down to writing his third solo album, Midpoint. The tracks include the upbeat Gravitational and the more reflective title song. Tom joins JO WHILEY (7.30PM, RADIO 2) to talk about the album and his autumn solo tour. Then he’ll give us a pared-down Sofa Session of past hits and some of the very emotional tracks from Midpoint.
