CROSSING CONTINENTS, 11AM, RADIO 4 (FM)
THERE’S a prison in Texas that’s known as The Tank. It holds 3,000 maximumsecurity prisoners, including 200 men on death row. Once known as the Terror Dome, the Tank’s violent past has included hostage taking, mutilations, murder and break-outs. Since the pandemic, a prison radio station, mainly run by the inmates, has broadcast all kinds of music, along with film soundtracks and messages of hope. Maria Margaronis meets some of the men who say it has changed their lives — even when those lives have only weeks left to run.
