Half of Britons cried over news of death

-

ALMOST half of Britons have shed a tear over the death of Her Majesty, a survey suggests.

It found 55 per cent of women admitted welling up compared with 32 per cent of men. The YouGov poll, which spoke to 3,282 adults, said that 44 per cent overall had cried.

Women over 65 were most likely to have done so.

Those in the South cried the most (48 per cent), compared with 46 per cent in the Midlands and Wales and 43 per cent in the North.

And those who voted Labour in 2019 were less likely to say they had shed a tear (37 per cent) compared with 2019 Conservative voters (59 per cent).

Half of Britons ( 52 per cent) believe it was right to cancel sporting and cultural events such as the Last Night of the Proms in a mark of respect while there was overwhelmingly support for having a Bank Holiday for the Queen’s funeral on Monday with almost nine in ten (86 per cent) saying that this was a good idea.
