We smile knowing you and Grandpa are reunited... duke’s tribute to his Granny
PRINCE Harry issued an emotional tribute to his late grandmother yesterday, highlighting her ‘unwavering grace and dignity’.
The prince said it was a comfort that the Queen was now reunited with ‘Grandpa’ in peace.
The message was posted on the website of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell website, and was accompanied by a black-andwhite photograph of the monarch laughing with her grandson.
It read: ‘In celebrating the life of my grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen – and in mourning her loss – we are all reminded of the guiding compass she was to so many in her commitment to service and duty.’
Harry, 37, who acrimoniously quit as a working royal, sparking one of the worst crises during the latter years of the Queen’s reign, also referred to his grandmother’s own words after her beloved Philip died, when she said: ‘Life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings.’
Harry continued: ‘Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings – from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren.’
Harry and Meghan have indicated they will remain in the UK
IN celebrating the life of my grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen – and in mourning her loss – we are all reminded of the guiding compass she was to so many in her commitment to service and duty. She was globally admired and respected. Her unwavering grace and dignity remained true throughout her life and now her everlasting legacy.
Let us echo the words she spoke after the passing of her husband, Prince Philip, words which can bring comfort to all of us now, “Life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings.”
Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings – from my earliest childhood
until the Queen’s funeral. It is not clear if they will be joined by their children, Archie, three, and Lilibet, one.
There is no news as to whether the children, who are sixth and seventh in line to the throne respectively, will start to use the prince and princess titles they are now entitled to following their
memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren.
I cherish these times shared with you and the many other special moments in between. You are already sorely missed, not just by us, but by the world over.
And as it comes to first meetings, we now honour my father in his new role as King Charles III.
Thank you for your commitment to service. Thank you for your sound advice. Thank you for your infectious smile.
We, too, smile knowing that you and Grandpa are reunited now, and both together in peace.
great-grandmother’s death. On Saturday, Prince William reached out to his estranged brother and invited him and Meghan to view floral tributes at Windsor Castle.
Sources have indicated, however, that it was an act of kindness and unity to honour their grandmother rather than a mending of their rift. Harry, who has made a string of damning accusations against his family, is bringing out a tell-all memoir and Netflix documentary. There has been no word as to whether they will be postponed out of respect to the Queen.
Spotify has announced it will put new episodes of Meghan’s podcast, Archetypes, on hold during the period of official mourning.
