New discoverie­s about your genes and health. This week: Depression

THERE are at least 178 genes linked to depression, 77 more than previously identified, according to a study from Yale University School of Medicine and University of California, San

Diego, published in May. After analysing 1.2 million medical records, the researcher­s identified the variants in and around the NEGR1 gene, making it one of the most high-risk genes for depression. There might be thousands more genetic variants left to discover.
