GENE WATCH
New discoveries about your genes and health. This week: Depression
THERE are at least 178 genes linked to depression, 77 more than previously identified, according to a study from Yale University School of Medicine and University of California, San
Diego, published in May. After analysing 1.2 million medical records, the researchers identified the variants in and around the NEGR1 gene, making it one of the most high-risk genes for depression. There might be thousands more genetic variants left to discover.
