Repeat after me, the Green Cross Code...

A HEADTEACHER I once worked with was very keen on reminding her charges of the importance of road safety. At assembly on the last day of every term, she would always go through the Green Cross Code, emphasising care on the roads as the school was in a very busy area.

She always ended her little homily with the words: ‘Now let us say the Green Cross Code together.’ Whereupon 80 or so infant school children would chant as one ‘The Green Cross Code together’ much to the (hidden) amusement of the staff.
