Prepare yourself for an emotional finale as we find out not only who the killer is but also say goodbye to the taciturn DI Jimmy Perez (Douglas Henshall, pictured), who hangs up his famous peacoat and gives back the keys to his Volvo after seven series, although the hit crime drama will continue without him. ‘It will be weird knowing they’re shooting an eighth series and I’m not there,’ admitted Henshall, ‘but I’m not sure what the show is going to be. I hope it works out and I wish them every success, but it isn’t going to be the show I was in. They will have to make a whole other show.’ Could Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh (Alison O’Donnell) take up the reigns, or will an outsider — such as Line Of Duty’s Martin Compston, whose name has cropped up often in social media chatrooms — be drafted in? But before he goes, there’s a race against time to stop the eco-inspired murderer from carrying out one final attack — and the clock is ticking. But perhaps of more importance is the will-the-won’t they plotline between Perez and nurse Meg (Lucianne McEvoy), which surely has to be resolved before our Scottish hero drives off into the sunset . . .
