Storey strikes as Preston find the net at last

PRESTON fans had seen only one goal in four previous matches at Deepdale this season — and that was scored by Birmingham.

But they were treated to two inside the first 15 minutes, including a long-awaited first at home for their team, in a fiercely-competitiv­e Lancashire derby last night.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis headed Burnley in front from Josh Brownhill’s corner, the first league goal of the Manchester City loanee’s career.

flapped at Robbie Brady’s corner. As usual, Vincent Kompany’s team dominated with their slick possession-based football but found it hard to penetrate a defence that had kept seven clean sheets in the previous eight games.

Jack Cork and Vitinho had shots saved by Freddie Woodman, and Connor Roberts and Manuel Benson were just off target with a header and shot respective­ly. Preston spent most of the game on the back foot.

Before kick-off there was a perfectly observed minute’s silence followed by a rendition of God Save the King by opera singer Russell Watson, and the players wore black armbands.
