Sheen invited to give Wales team talk!

- By TOM COLLOMOSSE

MICHAEL SHEEN will be asked to give a pre-match speech to the Wales squad after boss Rob Page saw the actor give a rousing address on television.

The Hollywood actor used his recent appearance on A League Of Their Own to show how he would inspire Wales’s players before they meet England in the World Cup in Qatar in November. The video of Sheen has more than 13million views on social media and Page said: ‘I’d like to meet him, absolutely. ‘Welsh football is in a good place at the moment. I’ve had pals that live in England saying to me, “Wow, to be Welsh must be unbelievable”.

‘I’ve already had messages from the players. They want to get (Michael Sheen) in straight away, absolutely.

‘I was in a meeting in Cardiff and I was going back up north and my phone was going bananas, so I knew something had kicked off. ‘When I watched it, I was in awe of it, it was unbelievable. ‘I’ve had some great reaction from the players and the staff. When you’ve got the passion to do that, we’ve got to use it to our benefit.’

Page was handed a four-year contract this week after leading Wales to their first World Cup since 1958, and only the second in their history.

They face Belgium, who topped their qualifying group, in the Nations League a week tomorrow. Page added: ‘It’s fantastic. I well up every time I watch it. Personally, I want to thank him for doing that.

‘I want to let him know that I appreciate what he’s done. We’re on the map, but he’s taken it to another level for us.’
