Everyday tasks can be simpler

-

MORE than two-thirds of people worry about being a burden or having to move into a nursing home at some stage, a survey carried out for DLF — which runs the Living Made Easy and AskSARA advice websites — reveals. Most of us would prefer to remain independent for as long as possible, whether by keeping as active as we can or by making discreet home adaptations. A DLF spokesperson says: ‘People want to remain in control of their own lives, to be able to do things for themselves and carry out daily tasks such as dressing, bathing and cooking.’ n IN THE home, a personal alarm system is great for peace of mind. And voiceactivated devices such as Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri not only help you make calls, but can be used to set reminders to take medicines or just enjoy music you like. Adapting your home also makes sense — access ramps, grab rails and keeping areas clear to move around safely are factors to consider.

In the bathroom, a walk-in shower can be easier to use, while still looking elegant. This is a very practical solution for anyone who has difficulty getting in and out of the bath. It is discreet and safe and can include built-in seating or grab rails.

The shower doors are lightweight, making them easy to use. Even with added safety features, it operates like a normal shower that can be enjoyed by all the family. Aquability’s and Nationwide Mobility’s walk-in showers fit in the same space as your old bath and can usually be installed in a day with no mess or fuss.
