A PRIVATE AFFAIR, PRIME VIDEO

-

OFFERING up a heady mix of old-school detection and white-knuckle excitement, this new Spanish adventure serial is a subtitled treat. Aura Garrido plays Marina Quiroga, a posh young lady in strait-laced 1940s Spain, who dreams of becoming a detective, much to the annoyance of her mother — who thinks she should be focusing on finding a husband — and her police chief brother. When a serial killer targets women in her town, the police aren’t overly concerned because he ‘only kills prostitutes’, but Marina has other ideas and sets out to crack the case with the aid of the family’s butler, Hector (the inimitable Jean Reno, from La Femme Nikita and Leon, pictured with Garrido). Hector is really supposed to be keeping Marina away from trouble, but while he can’t stop her getting into scrapes, he’ll always be there to help her get out

of them. Full of crashing airplanes, speeding trains and fisticuffs, this is a proper old-school adventure.
