They queued to say goodbye

-

I’D HAVE loved to have gone to London to pay my respects to the Queen at the lying in state. But due to mobility problems, it wasn’t possible. Like millions of others, I have been glued to the TV and can only say how impressed I have been by the dignity with which the thousands of people queued for hours.

It fills me with pride and gives me hope for the future. What a legacy for the Queen if that warmth and compassion becomes the marker of what it means to be British.

JULIE HOWELLS, Pencoed, South Wales. I AM appalled that MPs and Lords had priority access to the lying in state, not just for themselves but for up to four family members and friends.

Who do they think they are to push in front of thousands of members of the public who had queued patiently for many hours? Who was responsible for this inequitable decision?

Such self-entitlement is disgraceful. If they wished to pay their respects, they should have got in line like everyone else and waited their turn.

LIZ GIBBON, Banstead, Surrey. MANY people queued through the night to pay their final respects to the Queen.

They now understand the discomfort and conditions many

people suffer every night, not by choice but because they have nowhere else to sleep.

May I suggest that in memory of this experience, they make a donation to a homeless charity.

EDDIE COOTE, Ferndown, Dorset.
