ATLETICO MADRID fans chanted racist abuse about Real Madrid forward Vinicius as they entered the club’s Civitas Metropolitano stadium before last night’s derby. A group of supporters were heard chanting ‘Vinicius is a monkey’ as they waited outside. The disgraceful scenes came two days after Real Madrid issued a statement condemning racist abuse aimed at the Brazilian, 22.

Last weekend Vinicius was criticised for doing a dance after scoring against Mallorca at the Bernabeu. It opened a debate in Spain about whether he had been disrespectful and the racists began to wade in. Football agent Pedro Bravo said on a late-night TV show that if Vinicius wanted to dance a samba when he scored then he should return to Brazil, before adding: ‘He should be respectful instead of acting like a monkey’.
