32.5m tuned in to watch

A STAGGeRING 32.5 million people in the UK tuned in to the BBC’s TV coverage of the Queen’s funeral.

Figures released by the corporatio­n last night revealed 52 per cent of the population had accessed its coverage through the day via its TV channels or live coverage on iPlayer.

The funeral is believed to be the third most watched TV event of the 21st century after an average of 26.2 million tuned in across all channels, peaking at 28 million. The average does not include those who used streaming services or those watching on big screens in pubs, churches or cinemas.

The BBC’s peak figure hit 22.4 million, with ITV recording a high of 6.2 million and Sky 1.8 million.

The euro 2020 final between england and Italy achieved an average audience of 29.85 million, while Boris Johnson’s March 2020 coronaviru­s address got more than 27 million.
