RAMBLINGS, 3PM, RADIO 4

-

A STRANGE, silent army haunts Langley Vale Wood. The wood was used by the Army during the First World War, filling the area with trenches, a rifle range and a gas training school. Now this mixed woodland in the North Downs is home to a glorious variety of wildlife and plants — plus 12 life-size sandstone figures. For this week’s ramble, Clare Balding joins a group of friends — all of whom have Type 1 diabetes — for a walk around the famous Epsom Downs Racecourse and into the ancient wood, where she hears the story behind these solemn figures.
