What IS Souness’ problem with me?

Grealish hits back at legendary Sportsmail columnist...

JACK GreAlish believes that Graeme souness has a ‘ problem’ with him after the liverpool legend criticised him again this week.

Sportsmail columnist souness condemned the Manchester City forward on talksPOrT on Tuesday, claiming he had not improved since making his record-breaking £100million move to the etihad in 2021. in July, souness said Grealish was ‘not a quick learner’.

english football’s most expensive player is preparing for england’s Nations league visit to italy tomorrow night, but the scot’s latest comments were not missed by the 27-year-old. ‘i don’t

know what his problem is with me. he always says stuff about me,’ said the former Aston Villa star.

‘i try not to read a lot of it. it is difficult when he’s on sky sports and it’s everywhere around the training ground at times. he was obviously a great player and won a lot but i don’t know what it is with what he says about me or what problem he’s got.

‘i know my own ability. i know before he used to say a lot of stuff about me not moving the ball quicker, but when i’m playing for a manager like Pep Guardiola and he’s telling me to keep the ball as much as i can and have balls to take it everywhere, that’s what i’ll try to do.

‘Obviously i am always going to have people (criticising) if i’m not playing well. i always watch my games back and i am very critical of myself. i know there were games, especially in the second half of last season, where i wasn’t at my best at all. i’ll always have people on the back of me but i’ve just got to try to go and perform.’

Asked if criticism about his performances affects him mentally, Grealish added: ‘There’s not much you can do, really. it probably affects my family more than me. Nowadays, people have so much to say, whether that be on social media or pundits and stuff like that. i’ve had to learn to deal with it. if it was my mum or my dad, i’d listen a lot more.

‘i’m not going to sit here and say, “Nothing ever affects me”, because it does sometimes. i’m a 27-year-old kid so i’ve had to learn to deal with it.’

Meanwhile, Jordan henderson, has revealed his dad is contemplating not travelling to the World Cup in November due to the shocking scenes that marred last season’s Champions league final.

The liverpool skipper’s father Brian and his family were caught up in the trouble outside the stade de France in June when thousands of fans were subjected to unprovoked attacks by gangs and tear-gassed by police, only to then be blamed by UeFA.

The disgraceful policing and organisation of european club football’s showpiece game in Paris was the latest in a harrowing series of events for england players’ families, who were also caught up in the violent scenes that

overshadowed last summer’s euro 2020 final at Wembley.

Tottenham and england defender eric Dier revealed on Tuesday that members of his family no longer attend matches due to the fear of verbal abuse.

Now henderson has spoken of similar concerns from his family, saying: ‘My dad said that after the Champions league final, that was him done.

‘When it gets closer to it, there’s a lot of security elements and things that are going on in Qatar that i’m sure will make people more safe. But when you’ve had those experiences, sometimes you think, “is it worth risking it?” We will have to see closer to the time.

‘if the fans weren’t respectful in Paris, there could have been a lot more problems, so the fans were amazing. it was the authorities and the people around the stadium that weren’t and were causing issues.

‘i suppose as a fan, if you’re going to the game and you don’t feel comfortable and you feel

threatened by whatever situation, you’re not going to want to go again. it’s as simple as that.

‘My family and friends have had a couple of experiences over the last couple of years, which have really shocked them and probably put them off going to future games. hopefully that changes in the near future when it gets closer to the tournament.

‘But when you see scenes like you have in the euros final and the Champions league final then they don’t want to put themselves in that situation again.’
