Aussie flag-burning demos
ABORIGINAL protesters across Australia lashed out against yesterday’s official day of mourning for the Queen.
Anti-monarchist rallies took place as a minute’s silence was observed and mourners packed a service in Canberra.
In Brisbane, the Australian flag was doused in fake blood and set alight. Protester Kevin Yow Yeh said it was a ‘kick in the guts’ that there was a public holiday for the Queen but not for Aboriginal people who had been fighting for their own day of mourning for decades.
Campaigners said the Queen and the UK government represented colonialism, dispossession of land and genocide.
‘We mourn everything they stole from us – our children, our land, our loved ones’ lives,’ said protest group Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance.
