WheN my son Chris was five, he was asked by his school to produce a self-portrait for a charity tea towel. he brought home a copy of his artwork. When i looked at it, i said: ‘Chris, it’s very good but you have drawn yourself with very long legs and a tiny head and body. You haven’t really got very long legs, so why did you do that?’ he replied: ‘Well, i’d done the head and body when the teacher said: “You have to fill the page” ’ — so he drew his legs to the bottom of the page and added the feet!
