Harry ‘makes desperate bid to edit memoir’

-

PRINCE Harry has launched an 11th-hour bid to alter his memoir amid fears it will be seen as insensitive after the Queen’s death, it was claimed yesterday.

The Duke of Sussex is reportedly ‘desperate’ to make significant alterations to his autobiography after witnessing this month’s public outpouring of support for the Royal Family.

But the final draft of his autobiography was signed off before the Queen’s death and it is not known if publishers will agree to the changes.

Harry, 38, received an advance of around £17. million for the memoir, which is expected to include bombshell revelations about his strained relationships with his father King Charles and older brother Prince William. The book is due to be published later this year, although an earlier draft was reportedly rewritten after editors ruled it was ‘too touchy-feely’.

Publisher Penguin Random House was said to have demanded the rewrite because the earlier draft placed too much focus on mental health issues, according to The Mail on Sunday.

A source told the newspaper: ‘Harry is keen for refinements in the light of the Queen’s death, her funeral and his father Charles taking the throne. There may be things in the book which might not look so good if they come out so soon after these events. He desperately wants to make changes. But it might be too late.’

In July last year, Harry said he was writing ‘not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become’. Penguin Random House was contacted for comment.
