Flying the flag in my schooldays
SEEinG the Union Flag formed by Rangers fans at ibrox (Letters) brought back memories of being among 3,000 schoolchildren who marched to form a Union Flag on the pitch at Sheffield Wednesday’s hillsborough ground on October 27, 1954, when the Queen and Prince Philip visited the city. i was 13 at the time and it took us hours of practice to get it right. i ended up on the outside edge, helping to form a dark blue section of the flag. i hadn’t looked at this photograph for many years, until the Queen’s death.
