MISSING . . .

-

A REUNION is long overdue. Albert John Argent (aka John or Bert in the RAF), aged 84, of Yelverton, Devon, wonders how the National Service RAF lads he befriended have fared after their demob in 1962.

‘In 1961, as a newly promoted corporal, I was responsible for Room 2 in Barrack Block 104 at RAF Marham. As I moved my kit into the NCOs’ room at 6pm I reminded the men of an inspection the next day; their response was: “So what?” I promised if everything was up to standard by 8.30pm, I’d buy the first round at the pub, the Bell. Soon, the place was gleaming.

‘Thereafter, we spent many relaxed evenings together at the Bell. Names that come to mind are John Hearn (from High Wycombe), Alan Branch (London), Alec Cornall (West Devon/Cornwall), Warren

Hotchkiss (Malvern area), Matt Bainbridge (Co Durham) and ‘Dixie’ Dean (Yorkshire). Their trade in the RAF was Electrical Mechanic Air.

‘I’d love to hear from any of them and learn about their lives.’
