PET CLASSICS, 5PM, CLASSIC FM

-

THE next two nights will be noisy. There will be whizzes, bangs and explosions — and many frightened pets cowering in corners and whimpering under beds. Classic FM is here to help both pets and their owners with a selection of calming music presented by Charlotte Hawkins (pictured with her rescue dog, Frank). Elgar’s sweet melody Mina, written for his Cairn terrier, is on tonight’s list, along with a charming piece that Mozart composed for his pet starling and other soothing works. There’ll also be some helpful advice from the RSPCA, and listeners can send in dedications for their own pets.

■ TOURETTE’S Syndrome can manifest in childhood but, for some, the symptoms will be so mild that they go unnoticed. Symptoms can peak during adolescence then fade away, but not in all cases. Many adults manage their symptoms so well that they can flourish in stressful jobs. THE TRUTH ABOUT TOURETTE’S (9.30PM, RADIO 4) hears from people with Tourette’s, including a thoracic surgeon, who point out the fact that 90 per cent of sufferers do not swear.
