Get ready, America... I’ll probably run for presidency again, says Trump
DONALD Trump was poised to announce a bid to return to the White House yesterday after he told a rally he would ‘probably do it again’.
He is said to have discussed announcing his challenge for the US presidency on November 14, less than a week after Americans are due to vote in the midterm elections.
Mr Trump has hinted at the prospect of mounting a 2024 presidential campaign for months. It comes after he told supporters in Iowa on Thursday to ‘get ready’ for a bid to take back the White House.
He is due to travel the country holding rallies in the run up to Tuesday’s vote, with stops in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Mr Trump will lend his support to Republican candidates as they try to retake control of the US House of Representatives and Senate in the elections, which happens midway through a presidential term.
All of the 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats are up for grabs. President Joe Biden currently possesses a wafer-thin majority of the House and Senate. If his Democrat party lose control of either chamber it will drastically impact Mr Biden’s ability to govern. Polls show that Republicans are likely to win control of the House but the race for control of the Senate is extremely close.
In Iowa Mr Trump repeated his baseless claim that he won the 2020 election. He said: ‘I won twice and did much better the second time than I did the first, getting millions more votes in 2020 than I got in 2016.
‘And likewise, getting more votes than any sitting president in the history of our country by far. And now in order to make our country successful, and safe and glorious, I will very, very, very probably do it again.’
Mr Biden has yet to announce he will seek re-election but without an immediately obvious alternative, he is likely to do so.
