Kyrgios apologises to fan he accused of being drunk

- By Jonathan Rose

NICK Kyrgios has apologised to the Polish lawyer he had thrown out of the Wimbledon Men’s Final after accusing her of being drunk.

Ania Palus, 32, was ejected from Centre Court in July after the Australian tennis ace said she’d had ‘700 drinks’. The 27-year-old world number 22 has now admitted he was ‘mistaken’ over his outburst.

He has donated £20,000 to Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, chosen by Miss Palus, to ‘resolve’ the defamation lawsuit. Kyrgios

said: ‘I told the umpire that a fan, who I now know to be Ania Palus, was distracting me, believing she was drunk. I accept that belief was mistaken, and I apologise.’

After the final, Miss Palus said she had drank a Pimms and a rosé and was trying to support Kyrgios, who lost to Novak Djokovic. She was given water and allowed back into the match after 1 minutes.
