Missing OAP’s body found in graveyard
THE body of a missing millionairess has been found in a churchyard a year after she vanished and a £35,000 loan was taken out in her name.
Norma Girolami, 70, disappeared from her £900,000 home in Highgate, north London, in August 2021 and a 42-year-old man was later charged with her murder.
The pensioner, who was unmarried and had no children, was initially believed to have travelled to Italy, where her parents once lived, to spread her father’s ashes.
But her family then realised she had left all her belongings at home and food in the fridge. In September, detectives revealed they were investigating ‘the possibility that her body may have been buried in a community space or a graveyard’.
Miss Girolami’s family put up a £20,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of her body. Police have now found her at St Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in North Finchley, less than five miles from her home.
The development comes after it emerged that a £35,000 loan was taken out in her name after the pensioner went missing.
Relatives had told police they feared the ‘gullible’ spinster may have been taken advantage of after she had inherited a £1.4million fortune.
Miss Girolami’s cousin, Jack Girolami, 67, said her late father had owned several properties in north London and Italy and that ‘she inherited it all’.
