Extra day off for the coronation
BRITONS will get an extra day off work for the coronation of King Charles.
The bonus bank holiday next year will fall on Monday, May 8 – two days after the ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6.
Downing Street is understood to have considered pushing the early May bank holiday back a week from May 1 over fears about the cost to the economy of a day’s shutdown. But MPs fell behind the idea of an extra day off. Royal aides are planning a slimmed-down version of the ceremony, which will see Charles III crowned with Queen Consort Camilla.
One-off bank holidays took place twice this year – one for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June and another for her state funeral.
