Eco protest leader arrested after plans for M25 chaos are revealed
THE leader of Just Stop Oil was arrested last night along with two other eco-activists ahead of a planned day of chaos.
Roger Hallam, 56, was taken in for questioning after police were told that his group was planning to scale motorway gantries on the M25 and bring traffic to a standstill, The Sun reported last night.
Mr Hallam was not at home when the police arrived to arrest him, but they later said a 56-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit public nuisance. His group was planning daily action until Christmas, with one member boasting: ‘It is almost impossible to stop.’ Mr Hallam, who also co-founded Extinction Rebellion said: ‘It’s potentially the most significant act of civil disobedience in decades.’
National Highways has now secured an injunction to stop protesters disrupting the road, meaning they could face jail.
