Small boat arrivals have ‘gone too far’

-

THE Channel migrant crisis has ‘gone too far’, Oliver Dowden said yesterday.

The Cabinet minister insisted the Government would ‘get a grip’ on the numbers arriving by small boat from France.

It comes as Rishi Sunak is due to meet French president Emmanuel Macron at Cop27 in Egypt today, where they are expected to discuss how to tackle the crisis.

‘I do not dispute for a second that this situation has gone too far and why people are angry about it,’ Mr Dowden told the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme.

‘It’s dangerous for the people concerned, it enriches gangs, and it’s people going from one safe country, France, to another safe country, the United Kingdom, he said. This year a record 40,000 migrants have crossed the Channel.
