£57m bill to jail Albanians
ALBANIAN prisoners are costing taxpayers £57million a year, with 1,336 in jails across England and Wales.
The figure is based on Ministry of Justice findings that a prisoner costs £42,670 each year.
So far this year, 12,000 Albanians have come to the UK in small boats. Albania’s director of immigration police Saimir Boshnjaku said many work for gangsters to repay the cost of smuggling them into the country, according to The Sun.
But Albanian political journalist Muhamed Veliu said only a ‘small portion’ get involved in crime. He added: ‘The majority arrive in the UK because it’s a huge market that needs labour in building construction.’
