Liz loses her head in Bonfire Night stunt
THIS is the controversial moment when a 35ft effigy of Liz Truss – complete with a laughing lettuce on her shoulder – was blown up for Bonfire Night.
Thousands gathered in Edenbridge, Kent, on Saturday to watch as her head exploded before the figure, clutching a box full of belongings, was set alight. The lettuce was a reference to a livestreamed video of a decomposing lettuce – which lasted longer than she did in office.
It came as Bonfire Night descended into chaos across the country. Yobs hurled fireworks at riot police and 999 crews were overcome with callouts.
A police officer was hurt and vehicles were damaged on one of the busiest nights of the year for firemen. In Leeds, a video showed officers in the street being pelted with exploding fireworks.
