CHILDREN as young as five will be able to go on their own to see Jaws, the film about a man-eating shark. The British Board of Film Censors has given the film an A certificat­e. It means that children under 14 do not have to be accompanie­d by an adult. Some scenes show the giant shark attacking and eating swimmers, including a child. The film, which stars Robert Shaw, is due to be released in Britain around Christmas time.

NADINE DORRIES was suspended from the Parliament­ary Conservati­ve Party after infuriatin­g David Cameron by secretly flying to Australia to take part in a tacky reality TV show. Tory Chief Whip Sir George Young took the disciplina­ry action after learning that the maverick MP could be away from Parliament for up to a month while filming I’m A Celebrity . . . HAPPY BIRTHDAY

DAVID GUETTA, 55. The Grammy-winning French DJ and music producer has notched up seven UK number ones. Guetta has worked with Lady Gaga and Britney Spears and produced I Gotta Feeling for the Black Eyed Peas, one of the best- selling singles in history. Asked what makes him unhappy, he said: ‘Grumpy people — there are a lot of them in France, unfortunat­ely.’

JONI MITCHELL, 79. The Canadian-born singer-songwriter has had hits with Both Sides Now and Big Yellow Taxi. Mitchell, who had a brain aneurysm in 2015, gave her first full live performanc­e in 20 years in July. Of her health, Mitchell, who contracted polio at nine, said recently: ‘I’m hobbling along but I’m doing all right!’

KING BAGGOT (1879-1948). The U.S. silent era actor was one of the first stars to be billed by name, though he was also hailed as ‘The Man Whose Face Is As Familiar As The Man In The Moon’. He starred in 1911’s The Scarlet Letter and 1914’s Shadows, in which he played ten roles. He appeared in 340 movies and was the director of 45.

MARIE CURIE (1867-1934). The Polish- born French physicist, who won the Nobel Prize twice, discovered the elements radium and polonium (named after the country of her birth) and coined the term ‘radioactiv­ity’. In 1921, U.S. President Warren Harding presented her with 1g of radium ‘on behalf of the women of America’.

IN 2011, U.S. boxer Joe Frazier, the first to
