JESSICA GADIROVA claimed a historic floor gold medal for Great Britain on the final day of the World Gymnastics Championsh­ips in Liverpool yesterday. The 18-year-old scored 14.2 to beat out the USA’s Jordan Chiles into silver, with Jade Carey and Rebeca Andrade sharing bronze. Her twin sister Jennifer was seventh. Gadirova’s victory made her only the fifth British world champion in history and lifted the hosts’ final tally to a recordbrea­king six medals at these Championsh­ips.

GEMMA Dryburgh became the first Scottish golfer to win on the LPGA Tour since 2011 with victory at the Japan Classic. Dryburgh (above), world no 199, carded a final-round 65 to finish four shots ahead of Japan’s Kana nagai. ‘It is life-changing,’ the 29-year-old said. ‘It’s overwhelmi­ng.’

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN held off a spirited challenge from defending champion Judd Trump to win the Champion of Champions title for the fourth time last night. Trump, aided by a maximum 147 in the eighth frame, fought back from 6-1 down to trail 7-6 in Bolton. However, seven-time world champion O’Sullivan reeled off the next three frames to seal a 10-6 victory. ‘I’m just happy to be here, I like to compete,’ said O’Sullivan. ‘I just take every match as it comes.’
