STRAIGHT TO THE POINT

-

I ACCIDENTALLY paid twice for my TV licence — by cheque and then direct debit — on two occasions, so I’ve overpaid £316. I’ve written to TV Licensing’s customer services and given the information required but not been refunded.

J.L., by email. TV Licensing says your direct debit was arranged for a different address not in your name, which is why you haven’t yet received a refund. It has now arranged to refund you and will write to you to confirm your direct debit has been cancelled.

I RECEIVED a letter from HMRC in July saying it owed me a £29.15 rebate, as I had paid too much tax in 2018/19. The letter said my cheque would be sent within 14 days to Claim My Tax Limited, a tax rebate company, but I am still waiting. Please can you help?

B.M., Isle of Wight. HMRC said as you applied via Claim My Tax Limited, a secondary agent, if you are unhappy with the service you received or the fees charged, you should contact the agent directly.

MY WIFE received an Airbnb gift card but there was no indication who sent it or its value.

A.S., Liverpool. AIRbnb said cards purchased via a third-party retailer have no value until activated by a cashier. This card hasn’t been activated, so has no value.
