IN HIS gardening column on Saturday ( Mail,) Nigel Colborn suggested using synthetic fuel in petrol lawnmowers to prevent starting problems next year.

This idea is sound but very expensive, as synthetic fuel costs three or four times as much as standard petrol. It is a much better idea to use a fuel stabiliser additive, such as Briggs & Stratton’s Fuel Fit ( other makes are available). Added to petrol, this preserves the fuel for up to two years.
