Over 500 health bosses on at least £100,000

-

MORE than 500 bureaucrats in the NHS and Department of Health earn over £100,000 a year, figures have revealed.

This includes dozens who get paid more than Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who takes home about £160,000.

Professor Sir Chris Whitty, England’s chief medical officer, makes up to £210,000, and Amanda Pritchard, boss of NHS England, earns up to £260,000.

Salary figures were released as part of a transparency drive in the summer by Health Secretary Steve Barclay.

NHS England has 430 staff members earning at least £100,000. There are also more than 130 working across NHS Digital, NHS Resolution, Health Education England and the Department of Health on at least a six-figure salary.

Jim McConalogue, chief executive of think tank Civitas, told The Daily Telegraph that hundreds of bureaucrats on high salaries would ‘feel like a slap in the face’ to families ‘counting the pennies.’
