A very troubling tax
TAXING the rich until the pips squeak is the oldest Labour trick in the book.
Troublingly, it seems to have been enthusiastically adopted by Jeremy Hunt, who has forgotten he’s meant to be a Tory.
The Chancellor is considering reinstating Gordon Brown’s 50p top tax rate on those earning over £150,000 to help fill a chasm in the nation’s woeful finances.
The trouble is, it is economically illiterate virtue- signalling. When Labour imposed that rate it raised next to nothing.
Higher earners either hire better accountants to limit their bill or do less work. And rather than be fleeced by the Government here, wealth creators simply take their talents elsewhere, making this country less prosperous.
Isn’t that the very last thing we need?
