Q

I HAVE signed up for a course of Jessner facial peels to reduce sun damage and for the Morpheus 8 non-surgical face tightening to treat marionette lines. I’m 75 — is this the best way forward?

A It’s tough to judge without knowing the condition of your skin, but the Modified Jessner Peel is a medium- strength chemical peel that’s ‘ good at removing superficial pigmentation’, says cosmetic doctor Ahmed El Muntasar ( theaestheticsdoctor.com).

‘If the discolouration is quite deep and dark, the highstrength Obagi Blue Peel (from £150 to £450 depending on location) is more effective.’

Expect a good ten days of swelling and peeling, though, and don’t do it before going on holiday: after any peel, you must make sure to avoid the sun or your discolouration will come back two-fold.

As for skin tightening, the Morpheus 8, which shoots radio-frequency heat into the skin with microneedles to cause a tightening response, ‘is fantastic if you have around 2-4 mm of looseness’, says Dr Ahmed.

‘However, at 75 your skin may be a little too loose and the effect may not be that visible.

‘I would go for a surgical lower facial lift or Ellansé collagenstimulating filler in the jowl area; it very noticeably tightens and thickens your skin.’

You’d need 2ml of filler at least which costs from £900.
