THE SHADOW POPE, 9PM, RADIO 4
POPE BENEDICT, nicknamed Pope Prada, lives in a former nunnery in the Vatican City, while Pope Francis, who has the more affectionate nickname of Papa Pancho, lives in modest rooms in a Vatican guesthouse. Benedict (pictured far right) — who resigned the papacy in 2013 — is a traditionalist, while Francis (near right), who has spent so much of his life working with the poor, is a reformer. The Italian journalist Massimo Franco reports how two rival courts now exist behind the Vatican walls, threatening to embroil the Catholic church in a damaging power struggle.
■ HURRAY! They’re back! If you haven’t had the good fortune to hear this programme full of wit, song and foolishness, do yourself a favour and let Radio 4’s finest show brighten up your Mondays.
